Sure Fire Workplace Safety Manuals

Except for very small organizations, nearly everyone is required to have written policies and procedures governing workplace safety. In addition to regulatory requirements, some policy and procedure manuals are written as a means to establish best safety practices. Unfortunately, many safety and health manuals do no more than gather dust on a bookcase or serve as doorstops, never being utilized as the vital working tools that help direct an organization's safety and health program. So if a well written and well executed safety and health policy and procedure manual serves many essential functions in an organization's safety and health management system, how do we get from where we are to where we should be?

This audio conference will help attendees carefully evaluate their organization's written policies and procedures related to safety and health and learn how to create written manuals that are effective and serve as a guide for the implementation of their safety and health program. It is also designed to delve further into issues of implementation, enforcement and revision of the manual.

• Discuss techniques for implementing their safety and health policies within their organization.

Pamela Ferrante, CSP, CHMM is the President of JC Safety & Environmental, Inc. a health and safety consulting firm with an office in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. JC Safety & Environmental, Inc. provides broad-based services to a variety of client in multiple sectors including light manufacturing, heavy industry and construction as well as Municipal Governmental Authorities and environmental remediation firms.

JC Safety's areas of specialization include review and/or design of corporate health and safety programs, Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems audits, customized employee training programs, and site-specific health and safety plans. JC Safety staff are also qualified to provide OSHA 10-Hour and 30-Hour Outreach Classes for both General Industry and the Construction Industry and have taught provided countless training sessions on internal emergency response preparedness.

Pam is a Professional Member of American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and has been active in the Western Pennsylvania Chapter for many years, recently serving as its President. She is also active at the Society level serving as a member of both the Leadership Conference Task Force and the Technical Publications Advisory Committee.
