Outcomes Based Construction Programs

Successful patient outcomes are the drivers that should be governing our facility planning and design decision making. Despite our noblest of intentions, in too many instances where people were hospitalized for care, clinical outcomes fell short of expectations. Too many patients have become the victims of unnecessary death and/or serious injury during their hospital stays. When the root causes of such occurrences are revealed, thirty-three percent of the time such events are tied in some way to the physical environment.

It is time for health care provider organizations and professional firms to revolutionize our facility planning and design process to better respond to our evolving needs. During this session, the process required for an outcomes based construction program will be discussed along with a project case study.

Learning Objectives:

  • Examine the serious risks to patient safety, efficient operations/functionality and financial viability when outcomes targets are only a sideline in a project.
  • Understand the value-added of centering facility planning and design around favorable patient clinical outcomes.
  • Grasp the necessary adjustments to the process in an OUTCOMES BASED CONSTRUCTION PROGRAM; develop a commitment to rethinking the capital construction process in order to highlight patient outcomes measures.
  • Review complimentary project outcomes report card and other project templates distributed by Speaker.
  • Participate in open forum question/answer discussion.
