The Business of Safety: Why and How Safety Pros Should Think Like Business People
I have the responsibility for safety in my organization and I often contemplate:
- Why I find myself working hardest to gain credibility with management than I do with the average worker?
- It seems as though safety programs only have a certain shelf life.
- Safety initiatives are often ignored by managers.
- Award incentives only last so long.
- And worst of all, few if any managers understand my language, the OSHA incident rate system.
If these questions surface within a safety professional’s mind, there is a strong likely hood that the goals and measures being used in safety are not congruent with that of the business. If this is true, then safety may be viewed as a separate value proposition than that of the organizations’ business goals….not a good place to be!
This session will surface tools to measure your organization’s appetite for a safe work environment, while offering direction in developing an integrated business and safety value.

- Simplify the health care reform discussion.
