Should They Have Seen It Coming? Protecting Healthcare Facilities and Workers from Electrical Dangers

What are the human and financial costs of arc flash accidents? More importantly, how many of them are preventable? The answer may surprise you.

Healthcare facilities face some unique risks when it comes to electrical safety and the potential for arc flash hazards. Arc flash incidents are serious business. Injuries can include third-degree burns, shrapnel wounds from exploding metal, blindness, loss of hearing, nerve damage, and cardiac arrest, not to mention death.

And with new safety standards and new improvements in safety equipment coming out constantly, there’s a lot to keep up with - and a lot worth knowing to keep your workers safe and to lessen your company’s liability.

If you ever do “hot work” on a regular basis or even just once in a while, what you learn in this safety training could save your life.

Designed for new and seasoned professionals, this information-rich and accredited safety training session for healthcare facilities presents a detailed overview of the NFPA 70E 2009 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace. The requirements of these standards are intended to better protect electrical workers from injury when they work on energized electrical equipment.

This session covers the critical, life-or-death information that you need to know before you work with hot equipment with a focus on arcing faults, from causes and characteristics to statistics to determining arc flash hazard levels for your facility. You’ll also hear about training for qualified persons, OSHA enforcement, employer responsibilities for compliance, and changes in the newly updated standards.

Get great information about preventative measures too, like what to look for when getting an arc flash hazard analysis for your facility and mitigating high hazard levels in existing systems.

You don’t have to put yourself and your workers at risk. Sign up today for this informative healthcare facility safety training, so that you’ll be in the know for lessening the dangers - and the liability - of arc flash hazards when you work on hot electrical equipment.

Learning Objectives:

  • How do the requirements for electrical workplace safety apply in a healthcare facility, as outlined in NFPA 70E 2009 Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace?
  • How does OSHA enforce the NFPA 70E 2009 as a best practice consensus standard for electrical workplace safety?
  • What are the unique risks that healthcare facilities face from electrical accidents in both human and financial terms - and how can you avoid those risks?
  • The most efficient and cost-effective ways to identify and reduce electrical hazard conditions in electrical distribution equipment installed in healthcare facilities.
