The Leader as a Career Coach

Great leaders know that they can't take the development of new talent for granted. Emerging leaders want their managers to understand their talents, challenge them, open channels for their development and link them to resources. They want someone to take an interest in their growth. How leaders pay attention to and talk with the members of their teams is critical in the perception, feeling and reality of whether the organization is concerned and interested in an individual's growth and career success. The problem is how to do this in a "no-time-to-do-it" environment.

Leaders who want to effectively and successfully manage the talent on their teams need tools for these conversations. In this session, participants will discover five roles and skills essential to successful development coaching. They will learn tips, tools, and techniques for positioning development as a key strategy for retention and engagement.

Learning Objectives:

- Recognize the business case for talent development
- Build a career development model
- List five key questions that are essential to development coaching
- Examine the link between development and employee retention
