Holistic Safety? Behavior-based Safety?
Forget What You Call It, Here's What Works

Are you confused by the academic terms, the latest HR trends, and the pie-in-the-sky claims that assert they can change your workplace culture and establish a behavioral improvement process? Are you left asking yourself questions like, “Which word is right to use? Am I addressing attitudes or behaviors?” How can you make sense out of everything you hear and read?

People argue about the effectiveness of behavior-based safety compared to other methods for preventing accidents and improving safety, health and environment. Is behavior-based safety the most effective path? Many say yes. We say, by itself, NO!

What you call it isn’t important. If the process improves your S, H and E, changes unsafe attitudes and behaviors at all levels—from management to line employees—and addresses workplace hazards and system changes, it works!

We will discuss the merits of using a holistic, integrated approach that uses different methods from different theories to get everyone on board, from staff members to management, to make change happen in your workplace.

This session will explore and discuss what works to achieve breakthroughs in safety, health, and environmental performance, wherever a person may be.

Learning Objectives:

  • What are some of the primary issues that make S, H & E improvement so challenging?
  • What are the primary causes of accidents, injuries, and health and environmental incidents both on and off the job?
  • What is the hidden enemy of S, H & E excellence—and what can anyone about it?
  • What are the main the distinctions between prominent methodologies for cultural and behavioral workplace change?
  • What makes a holistic, integrated approach so essential for making lasting improvements with the changing workforces of the 21st Century?
  • Who should be included in the improvement process?
  • What skills do both line and management employees need to support and manage their own and others’ safe practice behavior?
  • How can you truly assess your own level of commitment and drive for constructive change?
  • How can you start a planning model for S, H & E improvement?
  • What are the biggest barriers to change?
  • Plan your next action steps for initiating change in your company.
